Suicide Squad (2016) - Mini-Review

I will get on to writing a full-length review of Suicide Squad at some point soon, but in a nutshell: the cast are mostly great, the script is actually pretty darn good but the editing creates loads of plot-holes, continuity errors and obvious missing scenes, causing the film to nearly fall apart - although the resolution was terrible.

And with that, the Thirteenth Doctor's era has come to a close. It's easy for regeneration stories to be overshadowed by the programme's future - understandable given the show's constant change and renewal - but suffice it to say that The Power of the Doctor makes for a fitting conclusion to this era of the programme. Kicking things off with a heist on a space train, we're reintroduced to the Cybermasters, returning from The Timeless Children back in Series 12. It's good to see them return, even if their ultimate roles in the narrative serve mainly as cannon fodder more than anything else. Their Cyber-converted planet, which I'd speculated to Gallifrey, was a nice idea even if it served as a backdrop to the events unfolding rather than playing a significant role. Quite why Ashad and his Cyber Warriors were brought back, other than fan popularity, I'm not sure. An off-hand comment about the Master cloning Ashad doesn't quite resolve the character'...

Why Serenity is one the best films ever made

Shiny... OK, something different today. Why Serenity is one of the best films ever made. For me, it is. It's one of my favourite films of all time and my favourite sci-fi film of all time, as well as being a sequel to one of my favourite TV programmes of all time (Firefly). Here are my 10 reasons: The trailers for this film are awesome! I watched the trailer for Serenity the night I finished watching Firefly and it had me hooked with it being one of the most engaging film trailers ever made! It builds up the tension with the story-line and then goes into all-out action which looks brilliant and awe-inspiring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY3u7bB7dZk The soundtrack by David Newman is brilliant and memorable. While it certainly does not sound like Firefly's score, it works for the film and works in every scene it features in. First Thoughts on 'Arrow' Season 2 (Episodes 6-23)

Oh boy, this will be difficult. 18 episodes to talk about. Put simply, I have really enjoyed Arrow's second season, from story to characters. If I'm honest, Sara is a character I was looking forward to seeing a resolution with her at the end of the season, but from the looks of the Season 3 trailers, it seems that's still to come. She was beginning to outstay her welcome, featuring in both the modern scenes and the island scenes each episode. Speaking of the island, it was great to see the full character arc of Slade Wilson come to a close by the end of the season, even if it wasn't in chronological order exactly. It all added up and worked perfectly well. We also didn't have every episode focused on the island, with one on Diggle's past, and one showing an event that helped conclude Moira Queen's character arc.
