Doctor Who: Nightmare In Silver (2013)

So, Neil Gaiman returns to write Doctor Who!
OK, lets get the bad stuff out of the way. The kids were quite...knaff. Artie was a bit posh, for some reason, and Angie was really, really annoying. The episode felt a little too cut at points as well - apparently it was cut-down dramatically. Hopefully an extended version will come out one day.
Now, to the good stuff. The Captain was a character I hated, but she got killed by a Cyberman, so yay! The Cybermites were clever and creative creations. They showed how futuristic this story was - they were a replacement for Cybermats, which made sense. The continuity in this episode was great: Cybus Cybermen; Cyberplanner; Cybermats; Mondas; Gold; Cleaning fluid; Cyber tombs; Cyber Wars; and previous Doctors and regeneration. Well, Neil Gaiman likes the Cybermen more than Russell T Davies that's for sure. While previously the Daleks and Ice Warriors were indestructible, the Cybermen now are, which is GREAT! I don't know why people are complaining, it gives the episode a true sense of tension as to how they will be defeated and the ending wasn't a cop-out. The detatching body-parts was quite clever and scary, but it doesn't really work in Cyberman anatomy. The sets and lighting were fantastic, and the idea that it was a chess match throughout the episode was clever as well. Clara did a lot more in this episode and I hope that we get more episodes like this for her in the future. Porridge was great and I hope to see Warwick Davis return as he IS the Emperor of the Universe. His love for Clara was understandable I guess. Webley was great, as were the reject soldiers and Matt Smith's performance. The new variations of the Cyberman theme were great, and I really like the new design - much better than the Cybus ones. Well, the Cybermen are back with a proper episode ladies and gentlemen, so I'd give it a:

9.5/10

Or rounded up:

10/10
