Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Season 4, Episode 6 Review

Well, things certainly heated up quickly!
'The Good Samaritan' rockets us further towards our 'Ghost Rider' finale, as we delve further into Robbie Reyes' past. The flashbacks give us the origin we wanted to see, even if the slow-motion detracts from the emotion somewhat. Having an original Ghost Rider give Robbie his powers is an interesting origin, and the way it all ties to the team of scientists linked to the Darkhold is an interesting twist. The writers have certainly planned out this whole story arc, and while it is paying off, the coincidences and tie-ins are a little too much for me. I do have to complain though that Robbie's brother Gabe is really, REALLY annoying. I mean, I'm not exactly a Simmons fan, but he's so irritating I actually don't mind Simmons anymore. Hopefully he'll die soon.
Regardless, seeing Mace go toe-to-toe with the Ghost Rider after his tense inspection was a fantastic pay-off for the episode, especially given how horrifying the series' presentation of Ghost Rider is. Mace is a character I'm not sure the show has completely gotten a handle over yet, but I'm certainly intrigued to see where they go with him, while Ghost Rider has been a welcome breath of fresh air for the entire MCU; it'll be a shame if the writers were to drop him after this "pod".
In a shocking twist ending to the episode, Uncle Eli is revealed to be responsible for all of the ghosts - now all murdered by Ghost Rider - and is given a matter-creating super-power. It's a twist I didn't honestly see coming, but on further thought I can't deny that it'll work well for a big showdown between him and Robbie in the next two episodes. Agents of SHIELD is racing along with some fantastic episodes, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next. 'The Good Samaritan' gets a big thumbs up from me.
