Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Season 2, Episode 20 Review

As Agents of SHIELD draws closer to its season finale, the tension racks up this week for our heroes. Set just after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which the series doesn't fill in for those who haven't seen the film yet - an episode with our Agents fighting the Ultron drones bringing them together would have been great to see, but alas, Agents of SHIELD's large problem - being a not particularly popular TV show spin-off to $150-250,000,000 movies.
Ho-hum. If you have watched Age of Ultron though, its revealed through a little opening flashback that it was Coulson's mysterious Theta Protocol all along to help the Avengers - begging the question as to why Coulson didn't get a small cameo in Avengers to tie it all in, but maybe it would have been too much for the movie. SHIELD tie-ins in the movies would be awesome Marvel!
Anyway, this scene is soon mostly forgotten, along with Sam Koenig as SHIELD has banded together in the wake of Age of Ultron's devastating events. Coulson hopes to bring peace within SHIELD and with the Inhumans, sending Gonzales as a SHIELD diplomat to meet with Skye's mother, who doesn't trust the Agents.
It is revealed however, that Jaiying's judgement has been clouded by Cal's lack of trust in SHIELD, and she kills Gonzales in the hope of starting a war, as Cal is captured with his empty viles, poised to attack. Meanwhile, Ward and Agent 33 have captured Bobbi and plan to torture her.
Yeah, its difficult to judge a set-up episode like this. I still feel that way too much is going on in Season 2, and I hope Season 3 is a much simpler and character-focused season. There is a lot of tension, but nothing major happens and everything set-up has "we'll explain next week" written all over it. 7/10
