Autumn 2014 TV - What to look forward to?

Well folks, its that time that isn't happening again, but anyway, here are my thoughts on some TV shows coming up this Autumn:

Doctor Who: Series 8
- The series has already aired 8 great episodes, but the remaining 4 are undoubtedly the most intriguing. Who is Missy? Is she the woman in the shop? What are the Cybermen doing? Will Clara die? Will Danny die? Will Courtney die? Is Heaven real...? All these questions should be interesting to find out the answers to, and then its the Christmas episode! Will Clara die in that one instead, or simply leave? Who knows...

Doctor Who series 8 continues from Saturday 18th October to Saturday 8th November 2014.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD: Season 2
- Season 1 of the Marvel show has been met with some mixed criticisms, although by the end it did gain a fanbase to defend its faults. Was it really as bad as its reputation suggests? No, of course it wasn't. While far from being the next Firefly (Joss Whedon's best work if you ask me), SHIELD had some good characters, good stories, a nice, cheesy but light-hearted tone and overall was a good old fun 22 episode season. Season 2 does look darker, and more interesting, and hopefully won't be altering as much as Season 1 was. As for the mystery with Skye's parents, I'm intrigued...

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD season 2 begins on Friday 24th October 2014.

Arrow: Season 3
- Last season posed many questions for Team Arrow, and now with the addition of Roy Harper as Arsenal, Arrow's sidekick in red, along with Thea's new relationship with Season 3 regular Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman's brilliant performance is long overdue a proper comeback after mere cameos last season) and the possibility of Oliver and Felicity getting together makes this a hotly anticipated season.
Oh, and there's a new Count Vertigo, Sara Lance's return (not for long I think), a more comic book like Ra's al Ghul, a soon to be father Diggle, the Suicide Squad, Oliver Queen's time in Hong Kong with ARGUS and...yep, Arrow: season 3 has a lot going for it.

Arrow season 3 begins on Thursday 30th October 2014 (on Sky 1)

The Flash
- Arrow has already proven to be quite possibly the best comic book to TV screen adaptation I have ever seen, so The Flash has a lot to prove.
However, with Tomorrow People star Robbie Amell (who became pretty darn irritating by the end of that series), as well as a fair amount of CGI needed, can it live up to expectations?
Well, the reviews stateside seem promising, and with some cross-overs with Arrow: season 3 promised (as well as a Felicity Smoak guest appearance), we might well be in for a treat...

The Flash begins on Tuesday 28th October 2014 (on Sky 1)

Gotham
- Oh dear. I was looking forward to Gotham so much. It seemed like a great idea. Sure, it wouldn't be tied in with Arrow or the slowly crumbling DC Cinematic Universe, but it would be focused on James Gordon in the time before Batman and all of his super villains.
Not only does Gotham seem to be shoe-horning in as many Batman characters and pre-villains as it can, but it seems to be doing this unneccessarily. The show sells itself as 'before Batman', although one of the sub-plots is Bruce Wayne's journey to becoming Batman. In fact, that is the main story of the Pilot and in the trailers. This just shows a lack of faith in the show, and by the sounds of it, Gotham really isn't anything special. It wants to be a fan-pleasing show but seems to have done the opposite. Will it last? I can't see it lasting long if I'm honest. I'll watch it, but I no longer have high hopes.

Gotham begins on Monday 13th October 2014

Atlantis: Series 2
- BBC's Atlantis last year was a bit of a rushed product. The main character was bland, and it felt like the show was held up only by Pythagoras and Hercules' great banter every episode. The revelations were obvious and the effects were hilariously bad at points. It seemed to just be a filler series for the BBC Autumn slot, with no more Merlin. Series 2, however, sounds promising with the characters moved on and a definite over-arcing story going on, instead of just: this person will be important later, this thing will be important later, we'll explain this later. One thing the series does need to do though is actually give main character Jason an actual character.

Atlantis series 2 begins on Saturday 15th November 2014.
