Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Episode 20 Review
Can Ward be trusted? Basically, no. |
After last weeks' rather dull filler episode, this week the action kicks in when Agent Maria Hill returns to help Coulson track down Ward and the kidnapped Skye. The episode's dry sense of humour can get a bit repetitive after a while, but its clear where this series is going. Coulson and co are at war with Garrett and HYDRA, and next week it'll kick-start.
Anyway, let's focus on this week. The continuous irony in the conversations between Ward and Skye make me wonder how the hell Ward hasn't worked out that she knows his game yet, but before it gets too repetitive, Skye escapes and thus we have the return of Deathlok! Finally, Deathlok can be the awesome villain that I wanted him to be from day one! While his capture of Skye reminded me heavily of the scene on the bridge in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, its in a good way. J August Richards is clearly loving every second of this episode, and quite rightfully.
We then get Hill and Coulson rescuing Skye, and after an incredibly awesome escape sequence in Lola, the episode finished with a nice feel-good factor, soon to be ruined by an end credits scene revealing who was really behind the TAHITI project. Yep, I didn't see that twist coming either.
I wasn't expecting much after last week, but Agents of SHIELD is rising up from the 'meh' and becoming something truly awesome. I'm suspecting this post-Winter Soldier Agents of SHIELD will be the format in Season Two as well, and if it is, I'll be very happy with it indeed. I'm upset that we're nearing the end of this first season, but let's hope it goes out with a bang (and possibly a cliff-hanger).
Overall, this episode has been a step-up, and I really enjoyed it for what it was. I will definitely be buying this series on Blu-ray, and I'm still holding out for a soundtrack (please Marvel?). 9/10
