My hopes for Doctor Who Series Eight

After a great 50th Anniversary special, a rubbish Christmas Special and some interesting new changes for the eight series, here are my hopes for Doctor Who series eight.

  1. Give Clara more character! As much as I like Clara, I feel Jenna Coleman has very little to act with. The Rings of Akhaten last series prompted some amazing future story ideas, but then in The Day of the Doctor she became a teacher, and it felt so out of character and just randomly chucked in there. Why couldn't she be a teacher originally? It would have been so much easier. Also, look at the potential plot-lines with her mum. Do something with this character Moffat!
  2. Keep it serious and scary. As much as I actually enjoy Matt Smith's comic quirks of his tenure, I don't think Capaldi's should be the same. Make it more serious, less quirky and with some mild humour. Both Doctor Who and Sherlock have been tipping on the edge of actual comedy recently, and neither of them should be. Also, make it more scary! Come on Mr Moffat, you wrote The Empty Child! Fix this!
  3. Change the title sequence. I have only one problem with the 2013 titles: the effects are terrible! I've seen worse but they look so rubbish compared to other title sequences in the past. Change them and make them look more up-to-date. Show off modern technology! Make it more 3D like the Series 5/6 titles. Just avoid any of the Series 7 title sequences.
  4. Make sure that Danny Pink is just a recurring character. Give Clara something to go home to. She's now moved away from the Maitlands so give her a friend or boyfriend to go back to. Actually, just give her a friend and her dad (oh, and gran please?). We did the companion boyfriend/girlfriend thing with Amy and Rory (and sort of with Rose and Mickey). He doesn't need to be a full-time companion, just someone as part of the 'real' world.
  5. New music please? Murray Gold is great, but recent scores are far too similar. Give the Twelfth Doctor a unique soundtrack. Keep the Clara, Dalek, Cyberman and UNIT themes but the rest you can make new.
Anyway, these are my points.
